Know before you go

Reservations
In and around Murphys, several tasting rooms take walk-ins, but many open only part of the week, and larger groups may need to call ahead.
Tasting fees
Expect a different fee at each stop; some Murphys tasting rooms waive it when you buy wine.
Getting there
From Stockton, take Highway 4 east into the foothills; from Sacramento, take Highway 49 through Mokelumne Hill. Highway 4 over Ebbetts Pass, one route from the east, closes in winter and spring.
Best time to visit
A yearly grape stomp in Murphys celebrates the harvest in early October. Spring is wildflower season across the county, and summer has outdoor concerts.
Getting around
You can walk between the tasting rooms on Murphys' Main Street. Wherever you taste, plan a designated driver or a tour.

Many tasting rooms take part in a spring wine weekend, and Murphys holds a holiday open house with local wines each December.
