Know before you go

Reservations
Reserve ahead, especially for weekends, larger groups and tastings with food; same-day walk-ins are the exception. Fall is the busiest season for bookings.
Tasting fees
Fees and formats vary by winery, from a short, casual pour to a longer seated tasting. At some wineries, the fee is waived when you buy a bottle.
Getting there
Highway 101 runs through town; from Interstate 5, take Highway 46 or 41, and from Highway 1 near Cambria, Highway 46. Amtrak stops here, and San Luis Obispo's regional airport is about 32 miles away.
Best time to visit
Spring brings green hills and wildflowers, summer can top 100 degrees, fall is harvest and winter is quieter. Temperatures swing between day and night, so bring layers.
Getting around
Downtown's tasting rooms, around the city park, are close enough to walk between. Rideshare gets scarce in the countryside, so arrange a designated driver, a tour or a car service.

Winery events run every weekend of the year, and in October harvest adds grape stomps, vineyard tours, winemaker dinners and live music.
