Reservations
Weekdays are quieter, and seating is easier to find than on weekends. Many wineries take walk-ins, but some require a reservation.
Tasting fees
Tastings carry a fee that varies by winery, and some wineries also run cellar or vineyard tours.
Getting there
By car, the valley is about an hour from San Diego and Orange County, about 70 minutes from Palm Springs and about 90 minutes from Los Angeles.
Best time to visit
Come in spring as the vines leaf out, or from September into October for harvest. Summer days average the mid-80s to mid-90s; winter days, the mid-60s to mid-70s.
Getting around
Two or three wineries make a relaxed day, and Old Town Temecula's food district is minutes away. Arrange a designated driver, a rideshare or a tour.

Summer brings live music to wineries, and fall adds grape stomps and harvest dinners.
