Know before you go

Reservations
Hours differ from one tasting room to the next, and some pour by appointment or ask groups to book.
Tasting fees
Each tasting room sets its own fee, and some reduce it when you buy wine.
Getting there
About 60 miles east of Portland. Interstate 84 runs along the Oregon side and Highway 14 along the Washington side; the two-lane Historic Columbia River Highway is a slower, winding alternative on some stretches.
Best time to visit
Fall is orchard-harvest season around Hood River, a good time to pair tastings with Fruit Loop farm stands. Persistent winds blow through the Gorge, so bring layers.
Getting around
Tasting rooms sit on both banks, so a full day may mean crossing the river; check Gorge alerts for wildfire and road closures. Plan a designated driver, a rideshare or a tour.

Hood River's annual harvest festival in October pours local wine.
