Dulles International Airport sits in the county's southeast corner, and Metrorail's Silver Line stops there. Route 7 and the Dulles Greenway lead to Leesburg, and Route 50 runs west into Middleburg.
Best time to visit
Virginia Wine Month in October is the busiest season for Loudoun's wineries. Winter works well too, with fireplaces or outdoor firepits at many tasting rooms.
Getting around
Wineries are spread across six clusters, so pick one or two and allow driving time; a car is easiest in rural western Loudoun. Plan a designated driver, a guided tour or a chartered car.

Events range from live music, winemaker talks and barrel tastings to grape stomping, classes, yoga among the vines, book clubs and farm-to-table dinners.
