Know before you go

Reservations and fees
Ask each winery about reservations and open days: the visitors bureau sorts them into Signature, Artisan and Casual, and open days differ by group. Tastings carry a charge, the bureau notes.
Getting there
The valley sits between Cleveland and Erie, Pennsylvania, stretching inland from the Lake Erie shore. Interstate 90 serves the area, with exits at Madison and Austinburg.
Best time to visit
Winery calendars list harvest tours and tastings in fall, and warm breezes stretch summer into autumn.
Getting around
Madison, Geneva, Harpersfield and Conneaut all have wineries, so choose a town and visit a few nearby. Plan a designated driver, or book a limo, party-bus or shuttle winery tour.

Live music, harvest tastings, classes and food events fill the calendar, and multi-winery trails add seasonal themes such as Halloween.
