- Book ahead and check hours, especially in peak seasons. The peninsula's wine trail holds ticketed special events that can sell out quickly.
- Getting there
- Traverse City, which has an airport, sits at the peninsula's southeastern base. M-22 runs around Leelanau County and M-72 across it.
- Best time to visit
- Fall is busy, with foliage and tours that may show grapes being pressed. Spring brings patio flights and early summer new releases; most wineries stay open in winter, many on reduced hours.
- Getting around
- The peninsula is spread out, with towns such as Suttons Bay, Northport and Leland along the way, so choose a stretch and stay near it. Plan a designated driver or hire a tour operator.
In winter many tasting rooms host live music, cooking classes and specialty tastings, and some of the wine trail's seasonal events pair wine with food at each stop.
